A man killed in a crash at the intersection of Texas 71 and FM 973 earlier this week has been identified as 46-year-old Juan Narciso Garcia, police said Thursday.

Police responded at 6:15 a.m. on Monday to reports of a wreck at the intersection.

According to a preliminary police investigation, a white Ford F-350 was traveling west on the Texas 71 service road when a blue Ford Mustang, which Garcia was driving, was heading south on FM 973.

The Mustang ran a red light at the intersection, police said, and hit the left side of Garcia’s vehicle.Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene. Police did not identify the driver of the second car.

Police said Garcia’s death was the city’s 30th traffic fatality of the year. At this time last year, police reported 29 traffic deaths.

Garcia’s case is still being investigated and police are asking anyone with information to call the Vehicular Homicide Unit detectives at 512-974-4424.
